Glenfiddich 18

Glenfiddich 18Revisiting an old friend, Glenfiddich 18. The ex-bourbon and sherry casks make their presence known with the injection of some subtle flavor, and subtle is the operative word for this Scotch.

The flavors all sit together without any obvious spikes. What can be coaxed out are hints of apple, cinnamon, plum, oak, and a bit of smoke, presumably from the char of the barrels.

The 18 finishes with a salty apple tang.

The label declares it to be “smooth, rich & mellow,” and I almost agree. To me, rich and mellow don’t really coexist very well. I would favor the smooth and mellow description.
